PTEC is a sucess because it is a public-private partnership. Without
industry, education and government, we would not
have been able to increase student enrollment
by 50% state-wide. Within this section, you can
learn why public
and private organizations are participating
and hear from
your colleagues about the success and demand of
PTEC. You can post
job opportunities, find
interns and become involved in PTEC through
the Ambassador
program, Scholarship
program, Just
for Girls Summer Camp and PTEC
101.
All industrial manufacturers need process operators - not just the chemical industry. That includes pharmaceutical, timber, oil processing and energy generation, just to name a few. However, there are not enough trained workers in Louisiana's available workforce pool to supply every company's need for process operators. And at times, that shortage creates a frenetic game of musical chairs for employers. In a mad dash to snag the most recent PTEC graduates, who will be left out? Chemical? Pharmaceutical? Oil Processing?
The truth is no business sector should be left out. But in order to make sure that happens all manufacturers need to support PTEC. The chemical industry is starting to feel the effects from having a workforce with an average of 50, meaning half of all operators will retire in the next 10 years. A strong, statewide PTEC program will address future worker shortages and help provide diversity to your workforce.
See what chemical industry leaders have to say about PTEC and how PTEC can help improve the local workforce and ensure their companies' futures.

Companies That Offer Internships
Placing PTEC students as interns in your
company has many great benefits for both the intern
and the host company. The following companies
have recognized the benefits of hiring PTEC students
as interns: BP, ChevronPhillips, Dow Plaquemine,
Entergy, ExxonMobil and Shell – Geismar. If your
company would like to start an internship program,
please contact
Career Builders.
For your company to participate successfully in PTEC, it will mean doing more than writing a check, providing a scholarship or hiring PTEC graduates. It means telling local community members your story. People who live in your community should know what your company does and the difference it makes in their lives. They should know about your need for more process operators to avoid a worker shortage. They should know you are willing to invest in them so you can hire locally when possible. And they should know that process operators make an average starting annual salary of nearly $35,000 and the life the career can provide.
The PTEC Ambassador program allows local chemical company employees the opportunity to talk to high school students about what they are taught in the classroom and how it can be used in the workplace.
This program gives your company the chance to
let high school students interested in a career
in the chemical industry know what courses and
skills they need to enter into the PTEC degree
program and obtain a career in process technology.
If your company would like to participate in the
PTEC Ambassador program and make presentations
to local high school classes and participate in
other community events, please contact
Career Builders, .
Sometimes it's difficult for teachers to demonstrate the relevance of what's taught in the classroom to students and relate it to their future careers.
The PTEC Academy is a two-hour workshop aimed
at giving area teachers an idea of what academic
and technical skills are needed by those who work
as process technology operators in the chemical
industry. If your company would like to host a
PTEC Academy, please contact
Career Builders.

PTEC Scholarship Programs allow chemical plants
to invest in local high school students and mid-career
adults in order to improve the local workforce.
Providing scholarships increase the chances that
well-trained process operators will be there when
your company needs them most. If your company
would like to start a PTEC Scholarship, please
contact Career Builders.

PTEC…Just for Girls Summer Camp is a
camp that emphasizes process technology concepts
to upcoming junior and senior girls.
During this fun camp, high school girls will get
a first-hand look into process technology by working
on real-world projects with PTEC instructors,
touring plants and talking to female process operators
and managers. After the camp is over, these young
women will have a better understanding of the
skills and knowledge needed for a career in process
technology.
PTEC 101 gives interested high school students hands-on experience with process technology, something these students wouldn't normally get until after they received their diploma.
PTEC 101 is a high school course designed for
seniors interested in pursing a PTEC degree and
a career as a process technology operator. Through
company sponsorship of PTEC 101, seniors learn
first-hand about careers as process technology
operators. During the course, students receive
an overview of an operator's job that includes
studying job responsibilities and duties, personal
and environmental safety, workplace safety and
equipment. Please contact
Career Builders. If your company would like
to sponsor PTEC 101 at a local high school.
